I was called to this work pretty much the moment I met my doula. Both my deep respect and love for my doula sparked a desire in me give to other expecting families what was so warmly handed to me. Encouragement, support, love, strength, comfort, informed choice, empowerment and ultimately the experiences that I can confidently call "the most incredible accomplishments of my life".
To be of assistance to a family and a mother during this momentous transition in life, was what I wanted to do. So when my second child was 6 months old, I began my DONA certification and have never looked back.
I truly am in love with what I do.  I cherish the time I get to spend with a family in the months and weeks leading up to labour. Helping them prepare mentally and physically, providing them with options, new ideas, helping them make choices while never imposing my beliefs. Being a calming, reassuring and constant presence to a woman in labour is of utmost importance and a part of my job that I honour and protect.  And finally, it is their incredible amount of strength and courage that enables the miracle of birth to take place and a miracle that always leaves those who witness with the deepest sense of privilege.

I believe in gentle birthing. I believe all women are strong. I believe that birth is a transformative experience. I believe that childbirth changes her in ways she could never foresee. And I believe that a positive birth story begins with the people the mother-to-be surrounds herself with.

It is a deep desire of mine to provide the continuous support that every pregnant, labouring and new mother is entitled to. And to remind them that they are stronger than they ever thought possible...  That childbirth can be both positive and life-affirming.

Since giving birth to my two children (in our living room), I have completed my
DONA birth doula training at Douglas College. And as a birth professional, I regularly attend workshops, advanced training courses and conferences to enhance and upgrade my knowledge and skills.
